What is meant by 1000 days
An adult’s health and well-being depends on what happens before conception, during pregnancy and up to 2 years of age: the first 1000 days. It is the period during which the external environment affects the genes and how they work. A crucial stage in defining the health of the future adult.
The Recommendations of the WHO and the Ministry of Health
The WHO frequently refers to the thousand-day theory in its documents, promoting the global spread of good practices to foster and sustain good health. In implementing the WHO recommendations, the Ministry of Health has developed a document aimed at raising awareness of the main health risk factors and protective measures, as focusing on good practices in the first 1000 days of life can significantly impact the health of future generations.
